THE PILGRIM II: ON PASSAGE

On Passage is the second part of The Pilgrim saga, an evolving series of miniature puppet works.

The first ideas for this second journey emerged in 2018, when an early development of The Pilgrim II was created and presented as part of the ongoing exploration of the Pilgrim’s world. Those early experiments established new characters, landscapes and possibilities for the journey, and became the seeds for the work that would continue to evolve over the following years. The completed performance premiered in 2026 at the Melbourne Puppet Festival.

In On Passage, the Pilgrim continues wandering through landscapes where the boundaries between the ordinary and the extraordinary begin to blur. Carrying a suitcase filled with fragments of his journey, he encounters a strange being, a forest of memory, and a world where music, time and transformation become intertwined.

Through miniature puppets, objects, sound and live manipulation, the work explores what we carry with us as we move through life: memories, encounters, traces and things whose meaning changes with time. The suitcase becomes both a stage and a vessel for these fragments, opening into an intimate world where small objects can hold vast landscapes.

Performed for a small audience in close proximity to the action, The Pilgrim II invites spectators to slow down, look closely and become part of the unfolding journey.

On Passage continues The Pilgrim’s ongoing search for the poetry hidden inside everyday things, asking what we remember, what we carry, and what might change along the way.
